Raw

Tuesday 3/26/24

Bit raw out there today. That's okay. The Zulu warrior cares not about such things. Ran 3000 stairs, did 100 push-ups.

I was reading about the Bennington Battle Monument in Bennington, Vermont, which commemorates the Battle of Bennington on August 16, 1777, a turning point in the war of the colonies, and I thought, whoa, that sucker is tall, so I looked up how many stairs it is: 417! That's like the ultimate stair workout. I would like to go there. Really all of the spots I wish to visit are in New England. Someone may wish to go to Italy, but I'd rather go to like New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine.

Listened to Paul Lewis's album of late Brahms piano works and Green Day's American Idiot.

I need to crank a few op-eds and some features. And watch some films I have to write about.

No matter how many times I see this kind of thing, it nonetheless floors me when people jump into a conversation to say the most obvious thing that anyone would know. For instance, I'll be looking at some FB post regarding the Yardbirds, and someone will say, "Eric Clapton was in them once." Gee, thanks. That's incredibly insightful. No one knows that. Why do people do this? Are they so desperate to feel like they're participating that they'll say anything, never mind that they have nothing to add?

Tour group was at the stairs again today. Happens a few times a week. I've heard this tour guide's bad, canned jokes dozens of times now. He says the same things every time with the same inflection. Credit for coming out for a tour on a day like this, though, to the tourists. Windy, rainy, cold. Was actually a pretty big group today.
