Will get back to more important things soon, but a few more sports thoughts.
If I had to make a prediction about this Celtics game tonight, it would be this: Jaylen Brown will be the driving force for the Celtics. He'll come out like a man on a mission to get this win, get it today, get himself the Finals MVP. Not out of selfishness--but because of pride and determination and on account of him being this team's tone-setter. It's not Tatum, it's Brown.
I'd written before how the Red Sox never seem to play on Mondays. Well, after being in that Sunday night ESPN game, they have a game in Toronto tonight. This Red Sox team makes me think of the movie Major League. You know how in Major League ownership didn't want the Indians to win? That's how Red Sox owner John Henry is with these Red Sox. I think he'd prefer them to lose so he wouldn't look bad by not allowing his GM or whatever Breslow is to make moves at the deadline if the Sox are in the Wild Card hunt. The Red Sox hanging around makes Alex Cora look good. He's going to land somewhere else and have success with the right type of organization for him. I feel like he's auditioning for that and that's how he's looking at this season and why he's trying to make the best of it.
I had also said that Tanner Houck should be the Red Sox' only All-Star representative. I need to amend those remarks, if we're talking right now. Jarren Duran is having a really nice year. I had serious doubts that he'd be a Major League ballplayer, with his immaturity and some of his behavior issues.
Let's look at what he's done this year heading into tonight's game: He's fifth in the league in WAR, eighth in runs scored, second in doubles, first in triples, fifth in stolen bases, fourth in extra base hits, seventh in total bases. That's a damn good year to date. You get MVP votes with that kind of stuff. What do I mean by MVP votes? You finish fourteenth in the voting. Which is good. This guy has been winning me over.
