Bill Belichick is King Lear without a useful Fool

Very few sports people would know this because they tend not to read anything, let alone have they ever read Shakespeare, but the salient, bang-on-the-nose comparison for what Bill Belichick has become--and perhaps it was just the natural progression of someone with all of his marked issues--is King Lear, sans a useful Fool by his side to chime in with insights and truths (which wouldn't be heeded anyway).
This is a bad guy. Who is dating--that's such a misleading term, but we'll use it--a bad woman. This is what she does. This ex-cheerleader and Bridgewater State grad. She bilks rich, horny, morally destitute, and pathetic--doesn't matter what their net worth is, pathetic is pathetic--old white guys.
I saw yesterday that she has like nine million dollars in property. Gee. Wonder how that came about. Her "business"--and anyone with a brain knows what her real business is--is called Trouble Club Enterprises.
Isn't that amazing? Trouble Club Enterprises.
Belichick is a horrible human being. I used to think there was some method to the way he behaved at press conferences, but now you just see the hubris and the childishness. He started dating--and again, that's such a misleading word here--this woman when she was twenty? While being in a relationship with that doctor who at least was an adult?
Here's a prediction: UNC fires him before he coaches a game. I get that everyone is stupid, and there's basically no intelligence in this world, but how stupid can you be? How stupid, desperate, and blind to what is so obvious?
They made a terrible, ghastly mistake in hiring Belichick. That decision has only become more embarrassing. He brought in his sons, then his favorite stooge Mike Lombardi. Do you know what Lombardi's entire career has been the result of? He's a professional hanger-on. That's what he does. He always seems to have these weird, nebulous, made-up sounding job titles. He's a professional friend--but not really a friend--and ball licker and water carrier. So what happens then? Belichick makes Lombardi's son the UNC QB coach.
Someone doing what Belichick is doing now is a lifelong horn dog. That's a person who just wants to bone, and you don't all of a sudden become like that at seventy something. His behavior over the years must have been so egregious in this area where he just humped and humped.
This is what he'll be remembered for. His tragic end. His true colors coming out. He'll be known as both a joke and the joke's punchline. No one will take him seriously for his coaching achievements. Tom Brady has already usurped a lot of the credit for that, and it's not like in twenty years people--can you imagine how dumb we might be by then? We might literally not even have brains at all; as in, they'll be surgically removed or neutralized or overridden or superseded by hardware--are going to be pouring over the Patriots' game plan against the smash mouth Tennessee Titans of 2003.
Belichick will be dead, known--if at all--as a gross ass dirty old man, and Brady will still be doing something or other of prominence.
I had wondered in these pages earlier if this girlfriend has any friends or family who care about her, because how could they not intervene? Now I think she's just evil. And maybe they are, too. You're a parent and you're not saying something? Some people are so evil that nothing gets through to them anyway. They're like a psychotic machine. Or maybe dad is like, "Where's my cut?"
I predicted UNC will fire Belichick, but they've made it harder on themselves, because no laws are being broken. What would the reason be? You're an embarrassment?
Teams and institutions don't often do mea culpas unless they have to. We'll keep putting up people on the board of the Celebrity Series of Boston on these pages. None of them will say or do anything.
But if that caught on and there was a public outcry? Then they would recant, apologize, try to cover their asses because they know how in the wrong they are. They know it right now. But they're not going to mea culpa without that pressure and feeling like they have to. They'll try and get away with it.
Very few people try to make amends because they should. They have to be forced to. And that's not making amends. Or contrition. It's getting busted in a public enough manner with what they knew all along was wrong.
Think of the scrum you have to be for that to be true about you. How worthless you are as a human being.
You have this woman on the field at UNC. Think of what all of this says if you're a player on that team. How do you respect this guy? Take him seriously? Play for him?
If UNC keeps Belichick as their coach, this will get so much worse and end in the most embarrassing debacle. Or worse. (What's worse? I don't know--murder/suicide.) Belichick has destroyed his legacy, his credibility. His credibility as a person is long gone, but now so too is his credibility as a coach. A person of sound mind.
It's interesting because part of what drove Belichick and helped him be successful--not that he ever would have been successful in any other situation than the one he very fortunately found himself in--is what has made for his downfall, which is continuing. He still has some plummeting left to go if you wants to, and apparently he's seeing that plummeting through.
