Bruins and the trade deadline, Celtics after a couple losses, and predictions for both teams

Saturday 3/9/24

Disappointed with what the Bruins did at the trade deadline yesterday, though I don't think it's necessarily GM Don Sweeney's fault. But still: A defenseman who was -41 last year and an injured, out-of-shape Pat Maroon? What is Maroon going to do? Cheer people on? Get mad some more at Jack Edwards for making a pizza joke?

They needed to move Linus Ullmark. I don't get this guy. The Bruins keep trying to move you, this time to the Kings, who are a good team. The Bruins don't want you. Or at least not that much. And yet you choose to stick around by using your partial no-trade clause?

Where is your competitiveness? Go to LA, be the man, and win the Cup as the guy.

The Bruins have two soft guys in net who care more about being buddies than winning. I hate that. They're such a team of our times. Kissy-kissy. Nicey-nicey. Feelings. Huggy-huggy. How about reality and winning and drive?

Prediction: This team isn't going anywhere. Bounced within two rounds.

By the way: The Bruins are playing the Penguins shortly. People talk about Pittsburgh like they're completely out of it. I don't know. They have a couple games in hand. They're not that far back. But they need this game today, that's for sure.

Another prediction: The Celtics won't win the title this year.

If they're going to win, they can't be playing close games, because they don't have what it takes in close games late. They don't fight, Jayson Tatum is a weak guy as a player. I don't know how else to put it.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if neither Tatum or Brown never win a championship in Boston. The Celtics won't beat the Nuggets if they meet them in the Finals. The Celtics are a regular season team that wins blowout games on the back of their physical talent but I think you need something of the brain, the spine, and the guts to win the title. Almost always, anyway.

To me, the Celtics don't have enough of that stuff. I don't care what the numbers say about Tatum and his game-winning shots or his points-per-game in the fourth quarter or whatever. I know what I see and that's a passive player, not a dictator of terms, of how it's going to be, a player who imposes his will.
