Death on the road

Monday 7/20/26

Got to North Station, bought my round trip ticket, entered the waiting area which voids your ticket for future use, waited to get my train to go to the dentist, and then they canceled the train. Called Dr. Raffy's office and left a message explaining the situation, asking what they wanted me to do and that I'd stick around and wait for the next train--which was an hour later--until I heard from them. He eventually called and had me reschedule. I could have gone in on Wednesday morning of this week, but opted for Tuesday of next week instead, that being one of the two days the Bunker Hill Monument is closed.

Someone tried to beat the train and cross the tracks, and had their car hit by said train. I believe they died. Not worth it, that kind of thing. You see it all the time. The impatience of people when it doesn't matter. And it's more and more common with how the world has become. A light turns green, and the people behind the first driver all start laying on their horns that very moment. No time has passed, but they're adding noise to the noise.

Why? You're so important that you're vitally needed somewhere? Your time is that valuable that a fraction of a second can't be spared? People aren't even doing anything but sitting there usually, starting at a screen. I think about this in the Monument. Those same people who stare daggers at me like they want to slit my throat because I politely said, "Excuse me," in order to step around their slow-as-molasses asses are those same people laying on their horn in the scenario described above.

To exit the lobby/waiting area at North Station, you have to scan your return ticket. This means I wasted money on two train tickets that I couldn't use through no fault of my own. No refund, of course.

It really is incredible how stupid people are. How oblivious they are, too, to how the world works and how they work. Just saw this:

Nobody got anywhere by being small-minded.

Practically all people who get anywhere as we think of getting anywhere are small-minded. Mediocre. Untalented. Definitely not great. Selfish.

Nobody, huh? None of those politicians? And big-minded Pat McAfee, right? What a massive mind. Expansive. You get places by being someone your parents ought to have told you not to be like. And you definitely don't get anywhere by thinking well. Or at all. Or caring about thinking. Or thinking people should think, or encouraging thought.

A number of avoidable roadway deaths in the Boston area lately. A woman was run over in a bike lane. People, because they are awful and they don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves, commandeer those bike lanes for their own purposes. Each day I walk to the Monument, I see these assholes without bikes in the bike lane. Runners use them as their personal path. You're a piece of shit if you use the bike lane for anything but biking. Moms with nothing else to do saunter down the middle of them pushing their strollers. Oh, look, a special road just for me.

You have a world where everyone plays a person wagging their finger about being a good person, and each person almost done to every last person sucks and only cares about themselves. The across-the-board hypocrisy of humanity now. Just about everyone has two settings/modes. Wag-the-finger mode, and how they really are in their own lives mode. Delivery trucks park in bike lanes. You see it right at Government Center. Amazon truck in the bike lane.

Some other guy was killed in the Back Bay by a car going the wrong way down the one-way street. This is a common way to get picked off. I never cross one-way streets without looking both ways. As I cross. I trust none of these fuckers. People are too stupid and entitled and they'll kill you dead.
