Father's Day, the longest day of the year, and peace

Something I sent to some fathers I know late yesterday afternoon.
Happy Father's Day.
Ordinarily I'd say something more here, reach out individually, or send something more substantial--like a finished work--but lately I've been a candle without a wick, and a nub of a candle at that. I feel like a flame gone out; or going out. It has been hard.
But I'll share this as...well, not a gift, but, you know. This is an ugly world getting uglier. There has been really just a single moment in many years when I've been around humans and...felt anything positive. Or had reason to.
I think today is the longest day of the year, an irony, as metaphor, not lost on me with where I'm at now. The Revels celebrate the shortest day of the year later on in the year with a musical program. At one point in the proceedings, there's a song for peace. They divvy up the crowd, such that one section starts here, another section starts there, until everyone is accounted for. Then everyone sings. Before everyone goes back to, well, you know. But for a moment, anyway...
I draw closer, by the way, to the completion of "The Ghost and the Flame" and the There Is No Doubt stories. And the never ending "Mouse."
