I just spent nine straight hours writing. Now I will run stairs. But first I will rhetorically ask: Can one drum better than this?
It's Keith Moon, with the Who, on an extended cover of "Baby Don't You Do It," at San Francisco's Civic Auditorium in December 1971. This is four guys, each very good at what they do, working in brilliant concert.
As a gig--note my language--this San Francisco show is as good, or better, than the Leeds show from Valentine's Day 1970. Leeds the show and Live at the Leeds--the original six-song album, with pops and clicks intact--are different propositions. More on that later. And then perhaps much more after that.
Everyone here is just awesome, but pay special attention to Moon.
