Hot dogs at the 7-Eleven

Wednesday 3/25/26

I'm putting this here because it amuses me. It's just a text exchange with a guy I know--the man who is the father of the girl I wrote those letters to who is going through some stuff. Today they were at the ER because in addition to that stuff, she has been having these nosebleeds that won't stop. I was working when I got a text from this guy and they were waiting, so I figured I would try and lighten her mood a little and make her smile.

When her father and I used to go out to the bars...okay, wait, I should preface this by saying the best part about those nights, and really the only tolerable part--because it was never much of a good time, which I think this guy would say, too--was when he came over first before we left. I'd play some music and point stuff out, and that was really the fun. It'd be like, I don't know, the first take of the Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever." He was a drummer, so maybe I'd play something by the Who with Keith Moon. It was nice. Then we'd go out somewhere loud, drink, smoke, just sit there, stay out until two, and blah, that was it.

But afterwards, he's always want to go to 7-Eleven this guy. Back then--hell, maybe now, I don't for sure--there was a communal microwave at 7-Eleven outlets. I quail as I type that. Because that can't be good for you, right? This guy would select an individually prepackaged cheeseburger, load it into the communal microwave, blast that sucker, whip it out and start consuming that thing as the steam was coming off of it. Then, when he got to the cashier, he'd hand over the melted cheese smeared wrapper--because the burger was all gone--so the poor bastard could scan it.

Anyway, this was our talk.

J: I'll call but as always we are sitting here waiting for them to take her back maybe 5 minutes maybe 2 hours who the fuck knows

C: It's encouraging when they have you wait.

C: I was discouraged when they rushed me in

C: You can tell her that. Perhaps she'd find it amusing.

J: Ha yes I remember

J: I will

C: Wheelchair

C: That's quite the picture, isn't it?

C: So, if they aren't too worried, that can be a good sign

C: I asked if I could walk and my request was denied

C: I'm going to do some push-ups, this is messing me up

J: I remember that yes

J: We're talking about the stairs and push ups

J: She's saying I don't do that and I eat McDonald's and Wendy's

J: And I'm still doing the wings and fries

C: Is that like a hardware thing?

C: Part of the life. You're on the go, it ain't about Trader Joe's, but what you can get in your craw pronto

J: I'm always out what am I supposed to eat

J: I've even had hotdogs a good bit

J: 711

C: There it is!

C: That makes me feel better about myself

C: Red meat is the devil's food

C: Not to alarm you

J: Yeah I don't feel good after I eat it

C: Lunching at the 7-Eleven

C: That's so hardware

C: That's aged, well-turned meat, too

C: Gristle

C: All these guys have coolers, man. Stock a cooler with decent fare

C: They have lunch boxes the size of carry-ons. I'm sure you have one of those
