Mouth-closed stair test

Saturday 3/23/24

BC took the hammer to UMass last night with eight unanswered goals and BU soundly beat Maine, so the two rivals will take each other on tonight at the Garden for the Hockey East Tournament championship. Should be an electric game.

I erred in purchasing a box of Saltine crackers. With my new dietary approach, I thought they might make for a harmless snack, but I was wrong--Saltines are quite bad for you. For some reason, and despite the name, I thought they weren't that high in sodium, but they are, and besides that, they have no nutritional value. Pretty much the sole value of Saltines is when you're sick and can't really eat anything else and are trying to have something.

Haven't been doing great on the fitness front. Will do better today. It's about half past four in the AM and as I was writing this paragraph I stopped and went outside because it's wet and I wanted to feel the cold and the mist against my face and smell the salt in the air from the harbor. I saw in a fitness discussion forum where someone said they could walk up two flights of stairs with their mouth closed and that was about their limit so I wanted to try this. My building is five stories high and I walked from the bottom to the top no problem and then keeping my mouth closed back down here to the third floor where I did another set of push-ups in the hall with my mouth still closed. For whatever that is worth. Probably little. But I like the idea of the mouth-closed stair test.

My respect for stairs is extreme. I am aware that someday I could look at the same stairs I run now and now be able to run them at all or as I once did. I will be changed while they will be exactly as they were. I am not going to allow this to happen. But my insistence and commitment to making good on this thing not coming to pass has much to do with my respect for stairs, and with that respect comes a better understanding of time, will, strength, and the short and long.

Went to Trader Joe's and Haymarket and acquired foodstuffs consistent with new dietary tact. Have not awoken with headaches the last two days. I feel strong. I'm going to read "Why I Hate My Friends" one last time right now just in case and then I'll send it to some people I know.
