This is comedian Stan Laurel talking about writers who come out of MFA programs:
"These people aren't talents, or even bad talents. They are simply non-talents."
And this:
"It's the old well-known fact: You can't make something out of nothing. But my God, how they're trying."
That was actually him talking about television M.C.'s, these people in the 1960s without any ability who would read cliched, uninteresting, witless lines on various programs, as if they were doing something creative.
But his remarks are equally applicable to MFA program writers.
